CONSTRUCTION OF WANG’URU STADIUM BEGINS IN KENYA
The construction of Kenya US$2.76m (Sh300 million) Wang’uru Stadium in Kirinyaga County has kick-off following a presidential directive.
The stadium construction will have a standard pitch, race track, terraces, recreation facilities, perimeter wall, changing rooms and ablution blocks, among other facilities.
The directive comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta expressed concern over the poor state of the facility when he toured the region and held a meeting inside the stadium earlier this year.
Meanwhile, State Department for Public Works Principal Secretary Gordon Kihalangwa confirmed that construction work had started at the site. He noted that government engineers were closely monitoring the project to ensure that it meets the standard and is completed on time.
Quoting Kihalangwa, “Money for the project has been availed. The stadium must be completed and be handed over to residents on time.”
For decades now, the stadium has been in deplorable state with residents usually described it as an eyesore of the region.
Veevee Enterprises Company is in charge of the project with completion date set in six month time.
